You know, I always found Nature’s Prophet in Dota to be a weird character
I don’t mean like his design, or the fact he creates tree people, I mean like…
Well, let me put it this way; we all know those nature-themed characters in fiction, the “tree hugging” types. Most of them seem to have this hatred for capitalism, greed, and basically anything involving money. One famous example being Dr. Seuss’ the Lorax. Some other examples being Lisa Simpson, Nadia la Arwall, and just about any character in a Studio Ghibli film that isn't evil.
Nature’s Prophet? He’s like, the exact opposite. His entire gameplan is all ABOUT money and greed. In order for him to be at his most effective, he needs to get as rich as possible. To add that, he gets rich as hell by killing things. Creeps, Roshan, and heroes. Any other nature-y character in fiction would probably get really pissed at the thought of killing someone for cash. But not NP. He’s all over that.
It’s like, sometime during all this fighting over the ancients, he got corrupted by the desire for more gold and better items, and thus became a shadow of his former self. A walking deconstruction of the whole “tree hugger” archetype in fiction. A twisted parody of what he once stood for.
or maybe i’m thinking way too deep into this and i should lay off video games for a while
