HOOOOO boy I'm listening to it right this second as I type this. Maybe I better shut it off so i can stop headbanging. Ok we good now.

Well I finally got ahold of AC/DC's new album and I have to say.....

Hell I don't know. I have mixed feelings about it.

Thing is. It has 4 REALLY good songs, and 7 kinda ho hum filler sounding songs that really don't stand out. So that makes 11 tracks in all with only 4 being worth listening to. Its not a NEW thing. I have albums that I only like a few songs on. I guess I expected WAY too much out of an AC/DC comeback. Still waiting on that NEW Back In Black or Highway To Hell I guess.

ANYWAY. So you wanna know if its worth getting? Well lets break down all the songs on the new album:

Rock or Bust: HOLY FUCK this song hit me like a runaway 18 wheeler. The album starts out with this KILLER guitar riff brought to you by Angus and new band member Stevie Young. Its a funky rhythm helped by Phil Rudd's drumming and riding the cymbals. The vocal melody is kicking and the lyrics are what you would expect from AC/DC. "In rock we trust, its rock or bust". The whole song just makes you want to get in a fight, bang your head, drink till you're 90% alcohol, and so on. I really like the space and minimalist vibe to the guitar tracks. I've always liked guitar riffs where they left a little space in between riffs or chords or what have ya. And to keep it from being stale Angus hits a few notes here and there to color it up and of course his solo is nothing short or groovy. This is easily my favorite song on the album and worth buying the CD or downloading by itself. Seriously GIVE AC/DC YOUR MONEY for this song.

Play Ball: I reviewed this song in my last blog post but for those who missed it I'll give you my thoughts again
Spoiler

Rock The Blues Away: The intro's pretty cool in this song and it has this upbeat happy sound to the whole song. The lyrics basically explain the day in the life of a rocker who wants to have a good time and forget his troubles. It sounds a little "poppish" to me though is the thing. Almost like its not a song they wrote but a song that was sent in to them to AC/DC'fy. It sounds more like something an 80s hair metal group may have put out trying to sound like AC/DC. Not really my thing.

Miss Adventure: This one has a neat intro as well but thats about it. Again it sounds a little more cheesy than I like what with the chanting and the silly lyrics. Neat guitar riffs though but overall its meh. Skip it.

Dogs Of War: This one I WANTED to like. Because AGAIN the intro was rocking and I was ready to hear the rest of the song then I hear Angus or somebody say "DAWGS OF WAH" in a low growly voice. Its more annoying and silly than anything. The music itself is pretty good though and makes you move around a little. But God that chanting is just plain cheesy. I don't know why they started doing that. They did that on a few of the Black Ice songs as well. And it sounds as silly as it did on there too. Anyway the song is at least worth a listen I guess but the chanting gets my disapproval.

Got Some Rock And Roll Thunder: NOW we're talking. This one sounds like classic AC/DC bar rock with a blues rock vibe that only they can pull off. The lyrics are that good old "Fuck yeah rock and roll" stuff that Brian Johnson brings you like nothing else. I could see dancing to this. This track is groovy, memorable, rocking. And Angus delivers his soulful playing as usual. Rewind it,play again.

Hard Times: This one I didn't finish the first time I heard it because it just sounded like a filler track and maybe it is. Its really not memorable and I can't really think of anything to say about it. Nah, skip it.

Baptism By Fire: This one's a little more fast paced and reminds me of the song Shake a Leg from Back In Black. Really ain't much to say about this one either. It sounds like Shake a Leg but isn't near as good. If you like a faster song that will make you want to drive 90mph down the highway maybe you'll like this one but don't expect to remember it that well.

Rock The House: This one tries to be like a groovy strip club song. And the lyrics reflect that. This one has a pretty neat main riff and again like Rock or Bust it chops up the guitar tracks so theres that little bit of air going on that does things to your ears. I didn't like this one the first time I heard it but its growing on me as i listen to it. Not the best one on the album but its worth a listen. Also Angus solo is a very yes

Sweet Candy: When this song first started playing I was thinking "HOLY SHIT Angus is about to play Foxey Lady by Hendrix!" because it starts off with that EXACT guitar squeal. But instead we get a pretty kicking and rocking track that I wouldn't mind listening to again. The riffs are cool, the lyrics are pure AC/DC and Angus delivers once again with some tasty licks.

Emission Control: After you hear Sweet Candy you're ready to hear another rocking killer track to fire you up some more. This wasn't it to me. Just sounds like a filler song or a song they TRIED to make into a new and memorable song and it didn't work out that way. Really don't care for this one.

Well thats it! The entirety of AC/DC's Rock Or Bust in one blog post. I hope this was informative and helped you decide whether or not you wanna download or buy it. I think its at LEAST worth a download for Rock Or Bust the title track.

So to recap, here's the song's worth listening to on Rock Or Bust

Rock Or Bust
Play Ball
Get Some Rock And Roll Thunder
Sweet Candy
MAYBE Dogs Of War just as a wild card because I said 4 good songs earlier.

Is it the new Back In Black we've all been waiting for? Not by a longshot but theres some good tracks on there that's worth a listen.

Rock on folks.
