This Blog is a little impromptu. I was just on YouTube when I saw this very clickbait-ish video called "The Most F**ked Up Japanese Animation You'll Ever See!! TENSHI DROP." If you've been avidly browsing YouTube since at least 2010, you would have seen videos that have titles like "WTF Japanese are weirdos!" and then you'd get your weird video, whether it be a banana man shooting bananas out his nose or a Japanese man singing about Jerry beans out of tune. By now, it'd be safe to say I'm a little jaded. But this video...this video didn't lie.
Just watch
Okay, lets look at this objectively.
The art looks alright. Its not ambitiously artsy or hilariously crude, but for the tone of oh WHAT THE HELL MAN!
There is no justifiable context! No mass appeal! This is just bullshit. I'm not the type to just go around crying about a show that tries to go outside of the box and gets weird. I liked FLCL and Paranoia Agent and Cat Soup, but Tenshi Drop isn't on the same plane. Tenshi Drop is like a failed Adult Swim pilot that tries too hard. Tenshi Drop is like one of those cartoons from Wonder Showzen. But, perhaps Tenshi Drop Knew EXACTLY what they were doing. Despite my previous criticisms, maybe Tenshi Drop wanted to shock viewers. Perhaps they wanted to find the right amount of disgust without getting to graphic. If you take another look at this video, the only really gross thing is that one girl actually pees. Aside from that, its just a bunch of toilet humor akin to an episode of Family Guy. Hell, I bet if you replaced the cast with males, it'd actually be a little more humorous and acceptable. So why is this so despicable? Because it's little girls. Little girls still are symbols of purity and still awaken peoples maternal instincts. We still want to protect them from people who like to watch them pee. And if the intended reaction is that, then I'd say Tenchi Drop is a work of art, albeit severely misunderstood.
But really, we never needed an anime of girls peeing candy.
