NOTE: The rules regarding this Nuzlocke run can be found in Chapter 1.
In this part, I depart Vermilion City, get the Flash TM, make my way through the Rock Tunnel, and eventually reach Celadon City, where I shall attempt to earn a Rainbow Badge.

Current Pokemon: 9 (3 in PC)
Blaze It (L23 Gloom)
ChuckEChiz (L24 Raticate)
AngryDragn (L28 Charmeleon)
Sup Ash (L24 Fearow)
Batwoman?? (L28 Golbat)
ShortStack (L27 Dugtrio)
So as stated earlier, my first objective is to make my way through Diglett Cave to get the Flash HM. Same as earlier, the wild Dugtrio in this cave are a legitimate threat to me. Even with my group so overleveled, the Dugtrio are higher level than even my highest level pokemon. Hopefully I won’t encounter one.
I make it through the cave without coming across one. On the other side, aside from the aide that has the Flash HM, there’s an NPC that wants to trade an Abra for a Mr. Mime. While I do have an Abra, my no-trade clause prevents me from doing anything. I get my HM (and nearby items), and trek back through the cave.
So I go through the cave, and I’m literally one step from the ladder to safety, and...
...Shit.
Well, it turns out better than expected. I lead with Batwoman??, and Dugtrio tried using exclusively Ground type moves. After doing some research, I learned that Dugtrio doesn’t learn Slash until several levels later. Had he known that and used it, I would have been in a bit of trouble. Not too much, but a bit.
Additionally, Batwoman?? was ready to evolve, but I canceled it by accident. So next level, I should have a Crobat. Whee.
So I go through Route 9, going through the trainers and the like. So I level Batwoman?? again, only to not have her evolve again. So after doing some research (again), I learn that Golbat cannot evolve until beating the Pokemon League. Which is all sorts of silly. Into the PC box he’ll go. Eventually.
So with that out of the way, I make my way to Rock Tunnel. Only one pokemon in my group can learn Flash, and unfortunately, it’s one that I already have a moveset planned out for. So I enter this cave blind as a Zubat.
I come across a wild Geodude. Unfortunately, with ShortStack in my group, there will be little reason to use Geodude in my party, so I’ll capture it as a backup.
Get it? Dohoho what a knee slapper and ok I'll stop.
Balboa joins the party.
I decide to change my mind, and get another pokemon that can use Flash to help with Rock Tunnel. I decide to bring Sup Misty out of the box in exchange for Sup Ash (who I won’t need for some time anyway).
I get through Rock Tunnel just fine, using ShortStack’s Dig midway so I can heal, and get through the rest of the area with no issue (and I get Rock Slide for ShortStack in the process, giving me a decent counter against Flying types). However, I come somewhat close to losing AngryDragn on a Hiker fight, due to a Magnitude hit. Thankfully, it was only Magnitude 6, so I make it to Lavender Town with zero casualties.
I don’t intend on going too far up the Lavender Tower, since doing so would cause me to be unable to capture a Gastly laster on. But Dongles is in here, so I might as well pay his ass a visit.
The battle is very easy due to how leveled my group is. I counter his Pidgeotto with ShortStack and her newly learned Rock Slide, his Wartortle with Blaze It, Exeggcute with AngryDragn, Kadabra with ShortStack, and finally, his Growlithe with ShortStack once more. No serious injuries were attained on my end, so I can move on with no issue.
After taking out the trainers south of Lavender Town, I change my mind about Lavender Tower and decide to take out the trainers within, keeping Repel up to avoid any encounters.
Being immune to Ghost moves and having Normal and Dark type moves, Sup Ash was the logical pokemon choice for beating down the Channelers in the tower. He got some levels out of it, which is nice, even if I don’t really need levels too badly.
So I continue to Celadon, once again effortlessly pummeling every trainer that gets in my way (or ones that don’t, since they’re free experience anyway). So after healing in the Celadon Pokemon Center, I venture back East to see what wild Pokemon I’ll be getting.
And I get a Meowth. How delightfully useless. Whatever. One sleep powder and one Pokeball later, he’s mine. Gabber joins the party.
So now I proceed to the Celadon Department store, where I buy a Pokedoll (which I’ll eventually need), a Fresh water (for the thirsty guard), several Lemonades (for myself), and a Leaf Stone (for Blaze It, who I plan on evolving soon).
One rule worth noting that I plan on following is that I’m not allowed to use any gifted pokemon, so the Eevee that can be obtained in this city will be off limits. Similarly, the Hitmonlee/Chan that I get in the Dojo and the Lapras in the Silph Tower will be off-limits. I might as well add SOME degree of challenge to this run.
So with that said, I advance to the Celadon Gym. This should be by far the easiest gym in the game for me, since I have multiple hard counters for grass types in my group.
After slashing and burning through the trainers in the gym (well, just burning, since AngryDragn doesn’t know Slash yet), I reach Erika.
While AngryDragn could probably kill her entire group in one hit with his newly-learned Flamethrower, I open with Sup Ash, since I know that grass types love to whore out status inflicting attacks such as Stun Spore/Poisonpowder/Sleep Powder. Erika opens with Victreebell. I open with Peck which inflicts roughtly half of Victreebell’s health to it, while it opens with Stun Spore, which hits. I use peck once more, which causes it to reach what can’t be any more than 5 hit points. It hits me with acid, which does about a fourth of my health in damage. Erika, unsurprisingly, uses a Hyper Potion, bringing Victreebell back to full health. Thankfully, my paralysis doesn’t get the best of me, and I get another peck in, bringing it back to half health. I get hit with Acid again before taking it out with another peck.
At this point, Sup Ash has had enough, and AngryDragn can take over. Thankfully, her Tangela is four levels lower, so it goes down in one hit without me taking any damage. Vileplume is her last pokemon, which, like Tangela, instantly dies with one Flamethrower. So with that, I easily win a RainbowBadge.
So after healing my group, I close this chapter. My work in Celadon is far from done, however. I still need to take out the Rockets in the Game Corner, but this chapter has already gone on long enough. Will I be able to foil the schemes of Team Rocket? With my group, is that really even a question rather than a statement of fact? How long will my deathless streak continue? Find out next time on Darkie Does Nuzlocke!
