In this chapter, I start by flying from Saffron City to Pallet Town. I head south, dealing with the trainers between there and Cinnabar, including the obligatory trainer with 6 Magikarps (seriously, why does Game Freak do this EVERY GENERATION?)

I then deal with the trainers between Cinnabar Island and Seafoam Island, fly to Fuchsia City, and head south and deal with the remaining trainers on the route, giving special attention to Hen Tie and Sup Ash, although Blaze It levels enough to learn Petal Dance, and In turn Giga Drain.

I then fly back to Cinnabar Island to clear out the Pokemon Mansion, where I’ll be able to find another wild Pokemon. I take a few steps in, and come across a Koffing. Really, there were no useful pokemon in this mansion, so I’m not disappointed. As usual, I sleep him and catch him.

James joins the party (and I didn’t even get a screengrab. Oops. Have a picture of a Koffing instead.)

And with that, I continue through the mansion. Unfortunately, I have a bad run-in with a Weezing who selfdestructs, taking out Hen Tie.

Rest in Peace. May your noodly tentacles enjoy the angels in the sky.

Geyser takes over for him. However, since he’s underleveled, I need to grind once more.

And so once I get it to evolve into a Seadra, I go back into the mansion, get the Secret Key out of it, and march into the Cinnabar Gym. For Hen Tie! I eat through all the trainers in the gym, giving Geyser a good workout. However, I want to be safe, and as a result, I go back to the mansion for some good old fashioned grinding (I won’t overlevel Geyser, but I also don’t want him 10+ levels below Blaine’s Arcanine).

So I return to the Cinnabar Gym, with not only Geyser, but ShortStack, who will also do some serious damage to Blaine’s group.

Blaine opens with Growlithe, while I open with Geyser, who one-shots Growlithe with Surf. He then switches to Ponyta, who suffers the same watery fate. Rapidash come in to replace Ponyta, and, once again, gets one-shot. He goes down to his last pokemon, his beastly level 47 Arcanine. I open with Surf, which takes out about 2/3rds of his health. He counters with Fire Blast, which not only takes out about 2/3rds of Geyser’s health, but also leaves her with a burn. I run Surf again, since Geyser has another turn to live. Thankfully, Blaine doesn’t use a potion, so Arcanine goes down, earning me my Volcanobadge.

I leave the gym, and receive a surprise visit from Bill, who wants me to come with him to One Island, which is one of the new features added in FireRed and LeafGreen. I was originally expecting to fly to Viridian to take on Giovanni, but this will be my sidetrack, which will be taken care of in the next chapter.

So with that, I close this chapter. With both Hen Tie and Check Em looking down upon me, I carry on in my journey. What adventures await me on the island? Will Geyser live up to Hen Tie’s legacy? Find out next time, on Darkie Does Nuzlocke!

Hrm, and I forgot to take a screencap of me in front of the Cinnabar Pokemon Center too. I feel silly.
