Hello all, I would like to introduce you to my blog; Mega Man Experiences. This will be a little blog of mine where I talk about my experiences with Mega Man. (Even though it isn't my favourite game series.)

I do hope you enjoy the blog posts I put up, and I apologize if I ramble on a bit at times.

No, wait, that's the whole point of this blog. Never mind. (And I'll keep these SFW too.)

To start, this blog is going to be my thoughts on the classic series alone through 1 - 10, and I will talk about each game I am familiar with. Since this is my first entry, I'll keep it somewhat short. This blog will stretch out over multiple chapters, so pull up a chair and let us begin.

First thing to talk about is how I got to know the series. Let's go back to 2008. I didn't start playing the series until I was 13, I was in secondary school at the time and I currently had a desktop computer of my own for both school and leisure. A year earlier, I had been introduced to the magical world of Emulation, and I was moslty playing Sonic the Hedgehog games on Kega Fusion. I had known of the Mega Man a few years before, and knew of how legendary they were amongst gamers. Loading up NEStopia and getting a ROM of the first game, I gave it a shot, loading up Cut Man's stage and was ready to play.

The start of a grand, yet somewhat painful adventure.

Neddless to say, it promptly whooped my ass. After some frustration, I knew of the godsend that was 'Save States', and began abusing them after each right move I made, not wanting to mess up. As I began playing, I was pretty damn excited about what I was playing, and began to get to grips with how the control worked and the difficult challenges ahead. It felt rather gratifying to see a game like this, with such challenge and intense action that no handholding was necessary. I felt like I was on a battle against the evils of the world, and I was the one to stop it.

It's like I'm just teasing it at this point. Well, I am.

After some toil, I had came to my first challenge, the Big Eye. I didn't know how to fight him, and was quite confused by his actions. He seemed to hop at two varying heights quite erractically. I tried to shoot at him, but he just sucked up the damage he was recieving and it did nothing. Worried that I had gotten stuck against a powerful enemy, I decided the best course of action was not to fight it head on, but try and run from it. I made a jump, got hit and used my invinicibility frames to walk past. Feeling relieved, I pressed onward.

He looks like the friendly sort.

After walking down a long corridor with turrets, I came to a door. It opened, went through and it shut behind me. I prepared a save state and awaited my next challenge. Suddenly, Cut Man appeared out of nowhere, punched his fists together and looked like he was ready to duke it out, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em style.

I have no idea how he looks practical in any field of work besides killing robots.

He leapt at me with gusto and threw his Cut Blades at me, damaging me in an instant. Walking by him, he ran towards me again, throwing his blades. I leapt over them and he jumped at me, killing me in my weakened state. I was less than thrilled, shall we say? Multiple attempts had passed by, and my patience was reaching wits end. Each time, he would leap at me, constantly running into my blue behind and beating me into shape. He was the first guy I battled, and he was miles too hard for my liking.

I guess Robots don't react well to a hug.

I had just about enough, and was ready to rage quit there and then, never touching this game again. But, just before I did, something clicked at me to keep playing, to overcome the task at hand. Even if save states failed me, it would have to be my sorry ass that has to beat this guy. Thus, I let him kill me again so I can start again with full health. Re-entering the battle, I saw his tactics. He would only jump at a distance, so close range combat was essential. I had to jump away from him, over the blades and into safety, shooting at him while his guard was down. It took me some time, but I finally figured out a pattern to defeating him while taking as little health as I can. My load state key has still not forgiven me for this battle. And then, I did it. I had won.

I did it. I saved 1/6th of the World.

I was overjoyed. After much toil and at least fifteen minutes beating this poorly designed hedge trimmer, I had succeeded in a task thought unfeasable by someone like me. This was my first true task I had beaten, my first truly hard game I had gotten a win over. (Well, with help from Uncle Save State, but that's beside the point.)

After that, I felt invigorated, I wanted to continue on and save the world from Dr. Wily and his many wacky machines. But I shan't go into specifics. This was my ticket into playing hardcore retro games, games that truly tested your wits and skill to complete a task. This made me love Mega Man, despite being hard as all hell, it was still an enjoyable expereince, and I loved playing through until the end to see the conclusion. And that was exactly what I did.

That was my story into how I got to know Mega Man, and what it meant to me. After playing games that I could breeze through and beat in an hour, this game truly showed me what it meant to man up and beat a difficult task, and I cannot thank it enough for it. This was my step forward into hardcore gaming, and I wanted to see just how far I can go into the world of gaming, and what surprises it held. Capcom had made me see that they were hard as steel, and made games that tested me and showed me how difficult games could be.

That was, until Treasure showed up.

And here I thought I was going to have a normal gaming experience.

And that was my first blog entry into the world of Mega Man. Tune in next time where I dive into Mega Man 2 and 3.
