Blue Cosmo's Bit on the Side - Whoa, almost forgot about this. (Life update)

Well, I haven't done a blog in a while. So why not do one now?

Not an awful lot has changed over the last few months. I've finished college, and now don't go back until September. My hobby's going well, and so is life in general. And now, the holidays are here and I'm quite confident I'll be doing more holiday-ing this year than ever before.

Tomorrow (as of writing this) we'll be leaving to go on the first of 2 1-week holidays. The first will be in Scotland, and we'll be hoping to go and see Loch Ness. I've never been to that bit of Scotland before but it should be fun. I hope I'll get to visit Edinburgh or Glasgow too, I've been to both and enjoyed my time in both of them.

Then, a few weeks after, we'll hopefully (money permitting) be going to Wales for a week, staying down the south of the country. Planned sightseeing includes going to the Cheddar Gorge, and maybe visiting Cardiff. I've always wanted to go there so that's going to be fun. Hopefully we can go through the north of the country to get there - the drive that way is really nice.

So yeah, aside from that, that much to report. I'll hope to keep a track of my activites in a blog (maybe a separate one just for holidaying) but I have no idea if I'll have phone signal. So, in case I don't, I'll see you guys soon.

So here we go. I'm finally here in Scotland for 6 days of happy(?) camping. And... I hate it already.

We left out home in England at 9:30 in the morning. We didn't get here until 5pm. Putting the tent up took the rest of my family a good while, and it was way too late to do anything - so we ate. We had calzone pizza, with coleslaw and potato salad. It was really nice, and I went back in the tent afterwards and used my mobile signal for a bit.

None of this sounds nightmarish, I hear you say. Well I haven't got to the bad bit yet: this place is riddled with insects.

Now I should make something clear here. I. HATE. Insects. Seriously, I'm almost certain I have a serious phobia of them. So being told by my mother there's hundreds of them outside, AND they bite? Recipe for staying holed up in my insect-free portion of the tent, thanks. But no, I have to leave the tent to go to the toilet and that means going through them aaaaaaargh-

Whew, crisis over. Anyway: I wasn't willing to do it so I waited until later, and there wasn't as many then but I still found walking there and back traumatic because of them. Upon arriving back at the tent the hooded jacket I wore to go over here was promptly removed and shall not be worn for a while, or in my portion of the tent.

So yeah. Day one and I'm already dreading even leaving the tent for the bloody insects. Aaaaaaargh. Still, it can't be that bad. Can it?

...

I need help, seriously. The worst bit is that I'm fully aware this is ruining my chances of going anywhere, but I can't get over it. But then I can't bring myself to go get help, and - oh wait, this isn't the blog for this.

Well, a new day must mean an improvement on shitty old yesterday, right? Eh... kind of.

Upon waking up, it was raining. Great. No insects though, which pleased me. So we got ready, waited for it to let up (which it did) and went out. We went to Fort William first, but there wasn't a lot to do there. We looked around, and had some food and bought some insect repellent. It all seemed to be going too well, and sure enough it went pie-faced, when my two little sisters got annoying towards me and I got annoyed back.

This angered both my parents (particularly as I said something that I really shouldn't have, while not thinking due to being annoyed) and they were both angry at me, which really got me down. We moved on after this, to somewhere else that I can't remember. I saw what I think was Ben Nevis (the biggest mountain in Britain) and got some photos, which was good. Then we travelled back, and got to the tent, and the bickering resumed, and everyone started arguing over who got use of the power sockets, and I got the short straw, and annoyed my parents AGAIN with my response.

Except later, my father got agitated when cooking the food, and said something to my mither which she didn't take kindly to, and they had a minor verbal altercation.

Now I should point out they've had very serious rows in the past and this was nothing compared to them. But it seriously gets me down every time they have any sort of verbal disagreement. And it made me start feeling really down, because it reminded me I do all the things my father does that my mother doesn't like and that I'm just like him.

And then I tried being optimistic, thinking tomorrow will be better. But I know it won't. Chances are that I'll do something wrong again, and get told off for it again, and that'll make me feel down again.

We're supposed to be going to either Balmoral or John O'Groats tomorrow, but so far I haven't really enjoyed this holiday as much as I should have. And that really gets me down. We barely have the money to pay for this holiday, let alone all our bills. The fact I'm not enjoying it pisses me off as it all seems like a waste but it shouldn't feel like a waste, I should just stop being miserable and enjoy it. But how can I enjoy it when crap like this keeps happening?

I might wake up tomorrow and everything might be fine, and it might be the best day ever. But today wasn't, and this is the second day in a row something has gone wrong and it's been my fault. For all I know I might wake up and wonder why the hell I even posted this, like I did with my Christmas Eve post on my other blog. I don't know. I guess all I can do is wait and see.

I'm sure this holiday is a lot better than I'm making it out to be. I might look back on this one day and think "that was a nice holiday". I guess those whole blog post is just me venting my frustration at life in general, just applied to the context of this holiday. I'm sure I'm fine, really. I think.

Mount and Blade Tales - the evils of Napoleonic wars

as you hopefully know by know, i love playing mount and blade. i love warband, fire and sword, viking conquest is ok, and there are a few mods i like.

just don't mention Napoleonic wars ok?

Napoleonic wars (which shall be referred as NW) is the most evil experience i have ever played. that does not mean its bad, far from it. its just the most evil thing i have ever played. here are reasons why:

1. the players

this is also an issue of normal mount and blade multiplayer. its not that the players are mean. far from it. its just everyone seems like they are from a legendary pro team from Korea who is practicing for a tournament. in case your not a video game person (why are you reading this guide then?) basically, what i mean is that every single player is on a higher skill level than i am, resulting in saddening pain. at least there's no nude warriors in NW.

2. the unnecessary complexity

there are around 20 different classes FOR EVERY TEAM! and they all seem the same. just a musket and nothing else.

3. no s(h)ingleplayer

yeah, pretty much it

4. so slow...

everything about the game feels even more clunky than the original mount and blade. the muskets are not fun to use, the controls get altered in important places, and don't get me started on the artillery

5. the inconsistency

if you have played 10 minutes of tf2, you know that there are friendly players who have stopped fighting to become friends with both teams. because of the danger in this act, they make their own servers. NW does not do that. they have a confusing melting pot of the strangest people ever, who all look like that one guy from the goonies, running around throwing bottles at each other.

dont play NW if you like warband. i learned that the hard way

Day 3 of my grand Scottish outing arrives, then. Will it finally be a decent day?

Actually, yes. A very decent day indeed.

Post waking-up and morning routine etc. I found out we'd be going to John O'Groats - the most northerly inhabited area in mainland Great Britain! I'd always wanted to see the place so this was big news for me. Excited, I got in our car and we set off.

Of course it was a long journey, so we stopped about 20 miles from there in the town of Wick, where we got some food. Although, this is the bit that went wrong. The café in the Tesco we visited had hardly any food left as it was 3pm! So I ended up buying ingredients for a sandwich, but by the time the rest of my family finished eating and I finished shopping, and we paid - which took ages as there was a problem with payment in front of us - it was 4 o'clock!

Nonetheless, we got there in the end, and I took some nice photos which I might post around the forum later. It was nice to see the views and I really liked it. After that, we travelled a little more, to Dunnet Head - the actual most northerly point in mainland Great Britain. (John O'Groats is only the most northerly place where people live.) There were some nice views there too. Eventually it was time to travel back, and that took a long time! 4 hours in total, just like when we went.

It was an achievement getting there and seeing the places though. So, now I've done it! And I really enjoyed today. Nothing went massively wrong and the day has been good to me. I do hope tomorrow is just as good. I liked today a lot.

MrThisucks' Top 10 lists - A Couple YouTube Poops I Like

So I'm no YTP expert, nor a YTP historian, hell, not even a YTP informational desk, but I like to consider myself fairly well rounded in the subject. If it wasn't for my weird phobia of creating accounts on the internet, one that still hinders me to this day, I probably would have been even more of an interesting YouTube Pooper. But hey, Roger Ebert never made great films. He just talked about them. Whether he talked shit about a bad movie, or praised a good one, people listened because he was worth listening to. So lets measure my value: lets hear me talk about poops I like.

YOUTUBE POOP: PEGGY SLIPS ACID INTO HANK'S COFFEE

At the time this one came out, I watched a lot of slower paced poops, so this crazy-ass poop came at me like a train. All these stutter loops and all the pitch shifting was like sensory overload when I first saw it. and it was a bunch of jokes that just sit there and look marvelous like when that puppet shows up and when Peggy and Bobby have their heads switched around. Plus that ytpmv at the end was glorious. I think subconsciously I still borrow ideas from this video, like the spinning chihuahua. A good KotH poop that isn't by Durhamrockerz.

YOUTUBE POOP ARTHUR'S MASSIVE, THROBBING HIT

So yes, I stole the name from this video, the the joke at the end of this video TWICE, but I couldn't help it. That faithful first night I found YTP, I needed to see someone deviate the hell out of Arthur, one of my most beloved childhood cartoons. When I saw Arthur and his family's nonchalant depravity, Arthur's brutality and cannibalism, and the editing that made this video exist, I was changed forever. Should a woman be mad at her man when he does something he learned women liked when he lost his virginity? I think not! Probably the most influential YTP I've seen.

NOSTALGIA CRITIC: CARTOONLOVER98

Not a lot of people can take criticism, so I find it awesome that cartoonlover98 went the extra mile and practically roasted himself. Maybe he was a little too harsh, maybe he wasn't harsh enough, who cares. I love watching Nostalgia Critic totally bash on some dude who just fucks around on Sony Vegas.

BARNEY FAILS AT VIDEO GAMES

A short stuttery glitchfest, just like the actual game I bet. I ain't got much to say it speaks for itself.

Ddede Invisible Touch'es Dr robit innapropriately because toNIGHT TONIGHT TONIIIGHT OHOOO

Every time I see a video by Geibuchan I'm blown away by how his video's feel like they're going a million miles and hour. I don't know what it is but everything is just so seamless. This is my favorite video by him because of Dedede singing Complicated and containing what I think is the best Azumanga poop (between you and me, most people that aren't Geibuchan don't do anything good with the source.) Fucking Bubsy coming out of nowhere, juice, little good me, there's just so much you could pull out of this video and love.

KING OF THE HILL EDIT: START PUFFING BOY

He knows its a poop. I wanted to keep every source in this list different, but you can't leave out this video. It's fucking creepy. Sure there have been a couple that try to be creepy, but guys like LinkOnDrugs and AwfulFawfulTheFalafel are all masking. Something about this one is more suspenseful and atmospheric, and its why I love it so. It's like a Francis Ford Coppola film.

I AM A VIRGIN

Because fuck that guy.

A DAY IN THE RAPE KITCHEN WITH TIMOTEILSD

If there was a video that borders reality and YTP, I'd say this is it. Is it a YTP? Is it just him fucking around making a sandwich and some funny editing? I can't tell. Can you?

Ah. I'm a few days behind. Oh well, better catch up!

Day 4 of my holiday was great. We went to Oban, which is kind of like a seaside town but more Scottish. It was really nice, even though we only stayed for a little while as we left late and got there late. And it took a while to get there.

Still, I really liked it! We looked around some shops (where I got my boxed copy of NASCAR Racing 3 for PC) and we got ice cream from a local parlour, The Pokey Oban (I think). And it was the best ice-cream I've ever had. Bar none.

I, myself, got a 2-scoop combo of chocolate and coffee, and they went together so well. The quality of the ice cream was amazing too. Sure it was a little pricey but it was worth every penny.

And then, after that, we went back to the campsite. So yeah, not much happened today, but it was great anyway!

Still catching up, don't mind me.

So Wednesday arrived, and I was excited for it. Unfortunately it turned out to be boring, and then it got worse.

Morning routine complete, we set off... to a path just outside the campsite. Yep, we went on a walk down the shore (we're on a campsite near the shore of Loch Ness). Unfortunately, there was a problem. Yep, the bloody insects again, except there wasn't as many this time. But we forgot the spray, so yeah. That sucked. And the path was muddy and hard to navigate in places.

So that didn't go well. Hoping the rest of the day would be better we set off for Inverness, to go see some dolphins at a viewpoint. At which point we were relocated to w beach, where we'd actually see them. Makes sense. So we went there and it seems the entire rest of Scotland had the same idea - there was basically no parking space.

Luckily someone was exiting as we arrived, so we parked up. I was going to wait and make sure there was actually dolphins before I got out and tried to take pictures. And sure enough, they saw some, so I got out. And sure enough, I didn't see any and my phone didn't have enough power to take pictures.

So I was well annoyed at this point, so I went back to the car where my mother was. (She'd stayed inside as she didn't want to get cold.) It turned out you could only see the dolphins' fins anyway, so I guess I was never going to get any good pictures. And things looked up again.

Unfortunately, whenever things seem to go okay on days like this, something likes to happen that ruins the whole day. And that happened soon after when some man came up to our car and started verbally abusing my mother as apparently the way we were parked was "blocking everything off", despite the fact 1) we weren't, and 2) loads of other people were Parker in a similar way to us, he just happened to pick on us. She calmly informed hints that she was in no position to do anything, as she can't drive, so she'd phone my dad and get him to move it. That didn't seem to help as he continued, and stormed off, threatening to call the police.

So my mother rang my father, he came back and found the man, and they had a blazing argument.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

If there's one thing that I really can't deal with, it'd blazing arguments. This, for me, was tbr thing that ruined the day, and made me upset at the time. The rest of my family managed to joke about it but I didn't find the situation funny at all (probably as I hardly have any sense of humour).

After that, we went into Inverness proper, and had some food at a Wetherspoon's (a chain of pub/restaurant combos here in England), namely The King's Highway. We had loads to eat, and the food was delicious too. But not even that could offset the rest of the day.

It's a shame really, things were going so well and then yesterday happened. I don't think there's much on the agenda for today either. We leave tomorrow so we'll be packing tonight, for a swift exit as we plan to go home via Balmoral Castle, tbr Queen's Scottish residence. That might be interesting, but we'll have to see.

Cinephile Confessions - Pink Floyd: The Wall (1982)

Released by Metro Goldwyn Mayer in 1982. Rated R.

Pink Floyd is often considered to be one of the greatest progressive rock bands in music history, with a catalogue that includes "Dark Side of the Moon", "Meddle", "Animals", and "Wish You Were Here". Then, in the spirit of The Who's "Tommy", the band decided to make a rock opera, only instead of being an optimistic, upbeat story about a deaf, dumb, and blind guy that's good at pinball, this one is an extremely dark and disturbing tale about a troubled, doped-up rock star who goes into isolation from the outside world descending into psychotic madness...yeah, this was NOT a happy album.

In 1982, 3 years after the album's release, a motion picture adaptation was released into theatres under Metro Goldwyn Mayer and directed by Alan Parker, the same man who would later direct the controversial drama "Mississippi Burning". The full story behind this film is that it focuses on Pink (get it?), a famous rock star who has had a difficult past. Early in the film, we are shown what his childhood was like that got him into such a state. His father was killed in the war when he was a baby, his mother becomes overprotective of him, and goes to a school where the teachers abuse their authority by punishing and humiliating him, all because he's writing poems during class (one of which that we hear is the lyrics to the song "Money" from "Dark Side of the Moon").

Years later, Pink is an adult (played by musician Bob Geldof), now married, and has a career in the music business. Unfortunately, the happiness between Pink and his wife is short-lived, as she has an affair with someone else while he's on tour, which he eventually finds out via a collect call. It is here where he builds his "wall", a barrier made from his memories to isolate himself both physically and socially, and the point where he begins to descend towards madness. Over the course of his descent, he trashes his own hotel room, shaves his whole body, continues to sit and watch WWII-related television (mainly the 1955 British film "The Dam Busters"), and even becomes a dictator in his own mind where he commands a Nazi-esque socialist party known as the Hammers. We see all of this unfold as the music from Pink Floyd's 1979 album is played throughout the film's running time.

To the casual viewer who hasn't listened to the album or know of the backstory, the story can be seen as very cryptic, even if they've been paying attention throughout the picture. What I mean is that they would walk away after seeing the film going "what the fuck did I just watch?", and that much I can understand. This is a movie where you have to dig deep into what was behind the events that took place, and after you do that, it'll at least make some sense. For me, I understood the story, as much of it was based on the life of Pink Floyd's then-lead singer Roger Waters. For example, his real-life father, who served in WWII, was killed in the line of battle when he was very young, and in the film (and album), Pink's father was killed in battle when he was a wee baby. I won't get into the other connections, as we'd be here all day. There's a lot of resources online, and on DVD releases that you can use in order to fully understand the story.

Visually, the movie is a thing of beauty and also something right out of disturbia. The cinematography is well done, especially during the song "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2", and the implied symbolism is not only strong, but also extremely unsettling. Even the animation segments throughout the film, which were masterfully done by caricature artist and animator Gerald Scarfe (who would later be the lead animation director for the 1997 Disney film "Hercules") is beautiful and creepy at the same time, to the point where it is simply described as "fucked up", and honestly, that is the best compliment I can give it. The movie isn't rated R for nothing.

Overall, this is not only what I consider to be a great movie, it's also one of my top 10 favorite movies period. I LOVE Pink Floyd, and anyone who is also a fan of the group, or rock music in general, needs to check this out as soon as humanly possible, no matter how they do it (though I would not at all promote or encourage piracy of any kind). As for casual viewers, I would recommend listening to the album first and looking up the backstory before proceeding.

DID YOU KNOW?:

- The song "When The Tigers Broke Free", which is heard in the film, is not in the original album. The song would be released in the album entitled The Final Cut.

- One song segment was filmed, but was unfortunately never used. The song was "Hey You", the first track on the second disc of the original album. Clips from the segment can be seen briefly during the "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 3" segment. It is also available in its entire form as a bonus feature on the DVD. However, the entire scene is in black-and-white and is a rough cut.

2 entries in one as day 6, we did nothing of any major interest whatsoever, except packing up to go home the next day.

Day 7 though... wow, what a long day. Waking up early and leaving at 10 o'clock in the morning, morning routine etc-yeah you know the rest.

And so began the long drive home! First though, we stopped at a Tesco's in Inverness, to stock up on food to take home. We ended up getting tons of macaroni cheese pies (which we'd had before on previous visits and knew were delicious), and various other supplies. I bought a couple of pizzas myself - likely Scotland-exclusive as I'd never seen them in England before.

Then, shopping done, we went first to Balmoral Castle, the Queen's Scottish residence. It was interesting to look at, even though not a lot of the castle itself was open (as it's all the Queen's private rooms, only the ballroom was open). The grounds were interesting too, there was a Land Rover trailer ride to get you to and from the Estate Office. Unfortunately we didn't get to do any of the walks, as they were all too long and we'd never get home if we did any. So, we left, and started the long trip back home! And I mean the long trip. I mean it took us about 5 hours to get to Balmoral, and we left at about 4 o'clock - and the drive back onto the main motorway took forever!

We did, in fact, find the motorway, and drove to Edinburgh, at which point it was now 7:45. We'd found a Starbucks Coffee and we were going to go in and get something for the road - we thought they closed at 8pm but luckily they actually closed at 8:30! I ended up getting a caramel frappucino and a nice little olive, tomato and feta snack pot, which was lovely. And the best part? I ended up with a free chocolate marshmallow thing as the man who served us needed to give it away as they weren't going to sell it! That was lovely as well.

And to top it all off, my mother managed to get us all some pizza from Pizza Hut! She got two pizzas - a margherita for everyone else but my father and me, who had a goat's cheese, spinach and vegetable pizza to share - as well as some wedges and onion rings. My dad and I both had two slices of our pizza and I think everyone else polished the other one off between them. I had some of the sides too, they were lovely. And then driving... and driving...

...and at 11 o'clock at night, we got home, after 13 hours(!) of travelling! We unpacked and I pretty much went straight to sleep in my bed.

And so ended the holiday.

It was nice, overall. Sure, not all of it went to plan (but when does it ever?!) but I still enjoyed it overall. You might find I use this blog again sometime, as we *might* be going to Wales, then Cornwall in a few weeks' time (money permitting). For now though, I'm home, and by God am I happy to be there.

MrThisucks' Top 10 lists - Tenshi Drop: An Anime About Girls Peeing

$

This Blog is a little impromptu. I was just on YouTube when I saw this very clickbait-ish video called "The Most F**ked Up Japanese Animation You'll Ever See!! TENSHI DROP." If you've been avidly browsing YouTube since at least 2010, you would have seen videos that have titles like "WTF Japanese are weirdos!" and then you'd get your weird video, whether it be a banana man shooting bananas out his nose or a Japanese man singing about Jerry beans out of tune. By now, it'd be safe to say I'm a little jaded. But this video...this video didn't lie.

Just watch

Okay, lets look at this objectively.

The art looks alright. Its not ambitiously artsy or hilariously crude, but for the tone of oh WHAT THE HELL MAN!
There is no justifiable context! No mass appeal! This is just bullshit. I'm not the type to just go around crying about a show that tries to go outside of the box and gets weird. I liked FLCL and Paranoia Agent and Cat Soup, but Tenshi Drop isn't on the same plane. Tenshi Drop is like a failed Adult Swim pilot that tries too hard. Tenshi Drop is like one of those cartoons from Wonder Showzen. But, perhaps Tenshi Drop Knew EXACTLY what they were doing. Despite my previous criticisms, maybe Tenshi Drop wanted to shock viewers. Perhaps they wanted to find the right amount of disgust without getting to graphic. If you take another look at this video, the only really gross thing is that one girl actually pees. Aside from that, its just a bunch of toilet humor akin to an episode of Family Guy. Hell, I bet if you replaced the cast with males, it'd actually be a little more humorous and acceptable. So why is this so despicable? Because it's little girls. Little girls still are symbols of purity and still awaken peoples maternal instincts. We still want to protect them from people who like to watch them pee. And if the intended reaction is that, then I'd say Tenchi Drop is a work of art, albeit severely misunderstood.

But really, we never needed an anime of girls peeing candy.

So Dad suspected my computer was infected by a virus, because it refused to open any of my broswers. Based on his suggestion, and against my well being, I mangaed to refresh the computer and did the trick, but like some anime, the cost was the computer's "life": Everything downloaded into it is all gone, and I have to go on some journey to get everything back. I pretty much went into a brief depression for a while, but thankfully, I somewhat got out of it; the shock of every bookmark gone hasn't hit me just yet.

So right now, I'm downloading everything back and move on from it. All of my tabs and addons beforehand are gone, so it really feels like I'm starting over from the start.

Oh well. At least this gave me a reason to see LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and watch the season finale of THE BACHELORETTE with my mom.

I've been somewhat absent these past couple weeks. That's because I was drove all the way from Washington to Illinois to meet up with DaftPunkYoshi. Doing a long road trip has been on my mind these last few years and DPY and I are good friends, it seemed like a good thing to do. Plus I would get to kill two birds with one stone as I've never met up with anyone I met online.

I figured I'd start with a quick description of each state I passed through to get to Illinois. I also have a few pictures to share.

Washington

I’m already near the border of the state, so the entire length was just a bunch of cities. Got some Starbucks at the start of the day, but it was decaf so really it just made me stop at a rest area after a couple hours.

Idaho

Tons of trees and single lane construction on a mountain pass. It’s a lot of fun going 25 MPH behind a truck going up a mountain.

Montana

Here we start with some mountain passes and then long stretches of nothing until you reach a large city.

Wyoming

This section was really fun. It was only 200 miles and an 80 MPH speed limit, but the scenery was so nice that it made the drive really relaxing. Here's a picture I took while driving. It was the only good one since I wasn't looking at the phone while driving.

South Dakota

WALL DRUG WALL DRUG WALL DRUG WALL DRUG WALL DRUG

Minnesota

Pretty much like South Dakota. A straight shot of interstate highway with fields of corn, but without the Wall Drug billboards. There was a cloud formation that looked like North and South America…though I don’t think Minnesota had anything to do with it.

Wisconsin

Holy shit, fuck this state. It starts out nice, and then BAM you get a concurrency with I-94 and you either have to go 10 over the speed limit in the left lane or get stuck behind semi-trucks in the right lane. And then they fuck with you more by getting into another concurrency with I-39. Even then, after I-94 goes on its way in another direction, the traffic is just so godawful for the rest of the state. It also didn’t help that there was an accident on the way there that put everything to a crawl for what felt like an hour.

Illinois

I got off the interstate highway because fuck trying to go through a toll booth. So the side roads were a nice change of pace.

After 3 days of driving, I finally make it to the Chicago area and check in to the hotel I'll be staying at for 5 nights. Not long after, I finally met up with DPY. A couple others met up as well

We had a lot of fun together just hanging out, watching some Ali Baba, playing Mario Party and Smash Bros 64. Hell, even watching the People's Court and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air together was fun. We did more than just that though, we saw the Mach 5!

DPY also got me my first NES game while we visited an antique mall. It felt like it appeared out of nowhere and it was one of, if not the last areas we looked at. I just need to get a system to play it now.

Posted Image
Posted Image

A few days later we went to an arcade. I've never actually been to a full fledged arcade before so it was a fun experience, even if it wasn't what DPY remembered it being like about a decade earlier. We played a good number of games like the Mario Kart arcade game, House of the Dead 2 (which we used a lot of credits on a stupid boss), DDR, Donkey Kong, a nifty virtual roller coaster that moved the seats and of course the best game of all

Posted Image

Thanks DPY for taking this picture!

There were also some games that gave tickets, we ended up getting enough combined to get two Resse's. Worth it.
The week went by so quickly, it was really hard to head back home. I had a lot of fun on the vacation and really wished it could have gone on a bit longer, but I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Other than the cool things in Illinois, on the way back I was told of a neat hamburger restaurant in a small town in Montana. It has really weird burgers like an "Elvis Presley" burger with peanut butter and bananas to outlandish ones like a 1/2 pound burger topped with a 1/4 pound cheeseburger. I didn't get anything special but it was really good it was called the "Blues Brothers" burger and it was just a bacon cheeseburger with Gorgonzola.

Posted Image

I'll need to come back to this place again to try a more gutsy burger. Also the restaurant has coke products everywhere, here's a section of the wall next to me

In closing, I have to say, it's really strange meeting someone you only know from online. You only know them from text on a screen and then to see them as a real person, it gets some getting used to. Fortunately, it didn't take long enough for that, and by the end of the week, I sincerely felt like that my online friendship really was just a normal friendship. I would definitely do this again.

I leave with one last thing. The total miles I did this past week and a half

C.A.P.'s Blog - The Direction Connection

No matter how hard I try, part of me always had this desire to direct some project, creating something that would make an impact to someone. Even as life goes on, I make friends, learn a lot about myself, and realize what I like and what I don't, part of me always go back and think "I have to make something that'll outlive me when I die." I think part of me will never get away from the sadness and loneliness that I saw myself in the past, and to get past it, I must get someone to tell me "I say [blank] and it got me to try it out myself, thanks for that."

That dream was never really at one place; one day it was an anime dub, another day it's a horror movie, another it's a down to earth romantic picture. Right now my mind is telling me to try out YTP and use it as an excuse to experiement further with the skills and go in directions no one wanted to go do, and I hope that one day, I can make that happen. Even if it turns out to be terrible, if I can get someone to pay attention to what I'm doing, I'd made my mark.

C.A.P.'s Blog - The Youtube Poop (idea for huge YTP project)

I don't know how this idea formed in my head, but somehow I was thinking two things: what kind of big YTP project I want to do, which lead me to think about THE DARK CRYSTAL and something happened: "Oh man, this is a great idea." The underlying idea was that this would be a YTP that takes itself so darn seriously, it teethers in the line between bizzare art and comedy gold. Basically, it would be this feature length YTP where a bunch of old YTP memes gather together and fight among one another over who gets to be "The King of all YTP." Meanwhile, the new memes are a more youthful, peaceful group that exists to hang around and have fun with what they have. But one of the memes (either Spongebob or Steven) seeks for something bigger, and along with another meme and her pet (I haven't decided that yet...maybe the pig and a character from Spongebob maybe) go on this mythical journey (that's more or less TDC with photoshopped heads and YTP jokes) that reveals the "inner workings" of this odd YTP community. And Sus is involved...that'll probably be what the Crystals would be called.

Right now the only thing I have planted in my head is the kind of tone I want, how it would start, the "structure" and how some of the plot goes (I want Mama Luigi to be one of the founding memes who walked out of the old meme group and started a new form of life). I don't know if I'll ever get around to making this (what with college and all), but this is the kind of project I want to aim for once I have the tools and pateience needed to make it work. We'll see what happens.

(and yeah, I think part of this came from Stuart's latest news video about the YTP community)

Oh shit are you ready for some pretty pictures? Oh my god watch out here they come!!!!!

As you can probably tell, I've been doing some work on other parts of the level.

With the first picture, I've been trying to experiment with outdoor foliage to make it look right. The biggest problem I've been having with that is that when you have foliage, you pretty much have to commit yourself to having metric fucktons of it in your level. Making a forest requires that you have a lotta trees and a lotta grass and a lotta bushes, or else it'll look really bare and unrealistic. When you have all that stuff in a single level, it becomes really difficult to do lighting builds in it because it takes literally hours for it to all render. Not only is this annoying and inconvenient, but it also makes it much more difficult to troubleshoot stuff because you have entire hours-long lapses between tests, and there are so many variables that if something goes wrong, good luck trying to figure it out.

Right now what I'm planning on doing is setting up a system called LOD (level of detail), where the further away you get from an object, the less detailed it becomes, thus saving memory and all that jazz. Problem is, from what I can tell, you have to set up the less-detailed-versions of the models yourself, so that's more busy work that I'll have on my plate. Either way there's gotta be a better way of doing it, because as of now, even though the less is fairly small, doing simple stuff in it takes ages.

The second image showcases the usage of particle effects that I'm implementing in the game. That foggy gray cloud you see in front of the floodlight is an example of that, and it's a handy way of faking volumetric lighting. Right now I'm going to have to do some tweaking with it because it looks really pixelated and weird, but at least it's something.

The third image isn't anything particularly new or exciting, just showing off Unreal Engine 4's global illumination and light bouncing. To be honest, I actually cheated and dug into the .ini files of UE4 and cranked up the production quality values. The result is something that looks really damn good, though it increases light build times a ton and also increases memory usage ingame, so there's some optimization to be done.

---

But yeah, for now, the level is pretty much nearing completion. There's still a lot of work to be done on the graphics, and I haven't even started on implementing sound work yet (which is really important, and I plan to spend a lot of time perfecting this), but hey, work is being done at least.

One Year On...

Well, it's been a year since I joined YouChew, & I felt like as a way of reflection, to look back at my contribution to the forums, the friends I've made & how I actually found the forums in the first place.

It was July 30th, 2014, I had recently come back to YouTube under my "BeanosOnToast2000" account, & I felt like becoming a YTP channel, since I had recently gotten back into poop, & I had even made an unpublished one using Vegas Pro 11 back in May 2013.

I think what bought me to the forums was BradDLCalt's Welsh Fireman Collab Thread, since I had watched many of videos during that time.

Another reason was due to people like him, ravinrabbid123 & RCLeahcar being members of the forum, that made me want to get in on the action.

However, the forums quickly flew out of my head, since I was focusing more on my new YouTube channel uploading VHS Openings, where I received some recognition from that community.

It was late October when I had re-installed my copy of Vegas Pro 11 on my hard drive, which gave me the ability to make more poops, (albeit rather rushed & poorly edited at that), with me becoming an official pooper, I thought now would be a good time to officially go back to YouChew.

Without any introduction, my first posts were mainly in collab related threads, where I joined in collabs like SuperUnate's Obscure Sources Collab, Kulu Otaku's Roll the Dice Collab & SpaghettiBicycle's Christmas Collab. I had also made friends with Leah, NationOfOranges & Kulu. I seemed to mean well, but there was one major flaw of me.

My naiveness of how the forum worked got me into trouble on occasion. Like how I asked for help on Vegas, without even posting it in the official Vegas thread.

Another time was when I wasn't use to how the pasting format of type box worked, the one that confused me the most was the "Paste From Word" button. I thought this meant to paste it from Miscrosoft Word, but it didn't work so I asked help, only to realise it was another usual paste button.

Feeling embarrassed & guilty, I decided to just stick to the collab threads before exploring the other threads of the forum.

Eventually, as time went on, I was introduced to people like Lavie Cestlol, TehShadzify & became quick friends with ParparPeg.

Admittedly, I kinda felt like a doormat who was there to be ignored, while the more familiar faces of the community overshadowed me, hell even Parpar, who joined the forums days after I became an active user immediately gained more recognition than me.

That, however all changed around February this year, when everyone around me started acting a little... different.

I was started to gain more recognition & attention from people like ravin, Lavie, taf & Joosh.

I also decided to change my poop style by this point, by making them shorter & try not to waste time in them. In April, I became a full fledged tenniser, & I've had matches with people like CorruptionSound & The Mountie From Hell.

I also joined skype the next month, which has allowed me to be more social-able with members, I've become friends with people like MrThisucks, fiv95, DiscoGlacier, Shadz & StePaulMe.

Looking back how I was in October last year & comparing it to how I am now, I can tell you that I feel like a happier, confident & more active member of the site, before I wrap this blog entry, I'd like to give out some big shout-outs...

Shoutouts

RCLeahcar - The first person to discover my poops. Upon discovering her channel, I can tell you that I always enjoy seeing new content from her. Her poops have such a style that doesn't get tired or drawn out, a very underrated pooper in this community. I kinda wish she had skype, as me & her have become good friends, since.

NationOfOranges696 - Another one of my earliest subscribers. Been watching his videos since mid 2013. His videos always impress me both visually & in sound too. Glad he's joined skype, as I'd like to know him more.

ravinrabbid123 - I've been watching her videos since June 2014. When I first saw her on the forums, I originally thought she didn't really care about me, but since February, me & her have becoming good friends since.

A very kind, laid back & just all the round good person to speak to, I've been familiarizing myself more & more with her, I was very surprised, yet fascinated, that she lived in Belgium for the majority of her early childhood, yet she seems a simple sort of person. I always enjoy our skype chats. It would be nice to meet her, one day, she seems to be a big sister figure, which I can very much approve of, (if I had a sister).

RyanYTP - A good friend of mine in the community. I spoke to him on skype, once. His videos always have this unique style to them, he's very active in the community too, I need to speak to him more, because his videos are so enjoyable.

DiscoGlacier - She's a member I've discovered quite recently, despite the fact she's been on the site for over 6 years. Anyways, I first spoke to her one night, because, I was bored.

Since our first skype talk, she's been one of the kindest & most helpful people that I've ever met. She's also a person I can very much relate to, a video editor who's taken a back seat at writing & such.

She's also a fantastic cosplayer & puts so much effort into her costumes & looks. I also really enjoy our discussions about conventions, she seems to go to a lot of them.

I was also surprised how much she knew of the British Dennis the Menace, considering how she's from the USA, plus she suggested I do a collab of all media related to the British Dennis the Menace, so I thank her very much for that one.

She just seems someone who doesn't really loose her cool, I had doubts upon meeting her, but, she's a very sweet person, actually.

Joosh - Now Joosh was actually one of the earliest people I met on the forums & my first impressions on him were; "Wow, he seems a very kind person" & sure enough, he is.

Although, we've rarely spoken to each other on the forums & on skype, I can tell you that he's definitely in my good books. He's also extremely helpful on the forums, too & always has good tips on doing collabs & other stuff, too.

I wish to speak to him more in the future, because, he's definitely someone today's society should look up to.

fiv95 - I first discovered his channel back in November 2014, he was actually subscribed to me once, but, we never seemed to be very familiar with each other...

Until earlier this month, when I asked for his skype name to add him, & boy did things change for the better...

Other than producing visually stunning poops, I also noticed some of his art, which I've always liked the kind of abstract style. People sometimes say to me that my art-style actually reminds me of Gabs', which I find rather surprising.

In conclusion, fiv's definitely an artist who I can relate to. I thought at one point I was the only one who broke away from the anime/magna inspired style, but I'm glad there are people who choose to break away from the in crowd, sometimes.

Geibuchan - One of the greatest poopers known to man kind, I actually got all giddy when he upvoted some of my art, because, usually you don't really expect the most famous poopers to recognise your work, let alone, like it.

His videos are always eye-candy, very simillar to fiv95's, except Geibuchan tends to go a bit further, (animations, image editing & top notch sentence mixing).

He's definitely someone who belongs in the animation industry, someone unique & also a fantastic artist.

theadventuretimefan - Me & taf have spoken a few times on skype & like Joosh, he seems to be a very friendly person.

I've always loved his videos since I watched "Everybody Dies Except for Me and Boris Elstin AKA Everything Existed in 2002: Taf Edition".

I'm also glad he's starting to get into the YTPMV community, he seems to be doing a fine job at it.

LaVie CestLol - Ah, LaVie. I think I first found his channel in late November. At first, I never really saw interest in his videos & didn't understand why they were so liked by everyone else.

To add to that, I saw him critiquing one of my poops & always thought that he had a bad impression of me.

That changed, however, when he saw one of my other poops & found a good chunk of it good.

I also became more & more fascinated by his videos by now & his match with ravin was one of the best matches in the history of Tennis.

Since, then, I recently added him on skype, because, I feared he was always busy, until taf explained that he's always like that, we tend to talk on skype quite often & he was the first person I added in my skype group chat, so we're both on good terms, now.

MrThisucks - Like DiscoGlacier, I added this guy because I was bored & I've had various discussions with him.

Admittedly, I was kinda worried at what he thought of me, but, surprisingly, he himself admitted he was worried, so you could say we were on the same boat.

I remember one morning at 5:00 British Time, we both had a talk with each-other, it went well & I've since enjoyed our little talks, decent fellow, I think.

TehShadzify - I first saw Shadz since he posted a critique on one of my poops & from the moment I saw "Michael Rosen expresses his distaste of equines", I've been hooked on his videos ever since.

Like fiv & LaVie, he's a common tenniser, the day I see him & ravin have a match, I'll go crazy, (OK, not literally, but you get the idea).

He's also a G-Mod artists like MoBrosStudios. While I have no interest in that software, from what I've seen he's a very good one at it.

I hope to tennis him one time, but it's really a matter of time, I think.

DrHotelMario - I think this guy started noticing me I soon as I posted my entry for his Micheal Rosen 69th Birthday Collab, which he really liked.

Since then, he's subscribed to my YouTube channel & he's entered my Stuart Ashen YTP Collab, (which I hope to get out sometime in August), he's also one of the few popular poopers who's subscribed to me, along with Ryan & Nation.

*Phew!* So that's it, my first blog entry done. I apologize if this dragged on a bit, but I felt I had a lot of things to say about my time on the forums both then & now.

Before, I go, I just want to say, thank you all very much for making me welcome on the forum & for introducing yourselves to me, because I can tell you, that I've finally met a community I can relate to & with me joining skype, I have even further connections with you.

I do think I've come a long way from being a niave & reckless shitposter, to an abstract artist who feels confident in showing what I can really do.

But, I have a question to all you guys... Do you think I've changed since I joined the forums, because, I really appreciate feedback in helping me to improve.

Until then, keep calm & don't put your Beanos On Toast.

Cinephile Confessions - Robin Hood (1973)

Released in 1973 by Walt Disney Productions. Rated G.

Over the years, there have been many motion picture adaptations of the classic English folk tale of Robin Hood. From the masterpiece that is the 1938 Warner Brothers film starring Errol Flynn in the title role, to satires like Mel Brooks' "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" with Carey Elwes, and even to the completely godawful that is both "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" starring Kevin Costner, and the 2010 Ridley Scott film starring Russell Crowe (of all people). To me, as with a lot of people that grew up watching nothing but Disney movies, the 1973 animated film directed by Wolfgang Reitherman is the one that not only introduced me to the thieving rebel, but is my absolute favorite of the whole lot.

Taking inspirations from the Errol Flynn film, the movie is about our titular hero Robin Hood, voiced by Brian Bedford, along with his sidekick, Little John, voiced by veteran Disney voice actor Phil Harris. They spend their time robbing from the wealthy (especially royalty), in order to give to the poor and needy. They do this to spite their false king, the greedy Prince John, voiced by Peter Ustinov, whose brother, King Richard the Lionhearted, is out fighting in the Crusades, thus giving John the initiative to tax the life out of the poor folks of Nottingham. While Robin helps the people fight against the oppression until King Richard returns (all whilst having a price on his head), his eyes are also focused on marrying his true love, Maid Marian, voiced by Monica Evans.

Being that this is an animated Disney film, the creators took creative liberties on how to tell the tale, and this quite apparent with the characters themselves. There are no humans throughout the entire picture (with the exception of one which is printed on a book in the beginning of the film). All of the characters are anthropomorphic animals, with Robin Hood and Maid Marian portrayed as foxes, Little John as a bear, Prince John as a lion, the list goes on. Honestly, I love this, because their portrayals as different animals completely match their overall character.

However, there are things in the film that a lot of people have pointed out, such as the re-use of animation from prior Disney films, especially during the "Phony King of England" scene, where it is most apparent. The main reason for this is because the film did not have that big of a budget, as the studio was not doing so hot after the death of Walt Disney in 1966, so the animators had to perform a cost-cutting exercise, but it doesn't necessarily hurt the film that much. This is because it's overshadowed with great characters, great music, a story that is pretty accurate to the original English legend, and, being a family picture, having a good moral for the young ones.

This was the movie that got me interested in going into animation and illustration, and watching it as an adult brings back a lot of great childhood memories. It's not just my overall favorite Disney film. It's one of my favorite movies, period. I highly recommend this for both the young and the old (yet young at heart).

DID YOU KNOW?:

- The films the re-used animation originated from include Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Cinderella (1950), The Jungle Book (1966), and The Aristocats (1970).

- Originally, the film was supposed to be based on the old tale of Reynard the Fox. The idea was brought to Walt Disney while he was still alive, but was dismissed because Disney felt that a "trickster rogue" was not a suitable hero character.
